Disease Occurrence

OIE data presents the information submitted to OIE by each Member Country in the annual returns on aquatic animal disease occurrence in their territory for publication in the OIE World Animal Health reports for the indicated years. The accuracy of this data is therefore the responsibility of each Member Country concerned. This data is supplemented by information contained in the 4th edition (2003) and 5th edition (2006) of the OIE Manual of Diagnostic Tests for Aquatic Animals as prepared by the OIE Aquatic Animal Health Standards Commission, assisted by the designated expert(s) at the OIE Reference Laboratory for the disease(s) in question, and taking into account comments received from Member Countries on the information contained in the different disease chapters. Further information is provided from the on-line "Disease Information" bulletins posted on the OIE web site each week comprising notifications by National Delegates to the Central Bureau of new occurrences of OIE-listed aquatic animal diseases in their respective countries.

Non-OIE data is information published in the scientific literature, mostly peer-reviewed journals, for which a reference (and in most cases an abstract) is provided. The information is mostly compatible with the OIE data, but in some cases a discrepancy exists with the OIE data for the occurrence of a particular disease in a specific country, but the information is included in the database until such time it is officially refuted with supportive evidence by the National Delegate of that country or by subsequent publication of peer-reviewed corrective evidence in the scientific literature.

All data is a straightforward combination of OIE data and Non-OIE data to provide all the information at the same time.

Should any user of the database consider the data for a particular country or host species to be incorrect or incomplete, please inform the Database Manager, Dr. Barry Hill, at the OIE Collaborating Centre for Information on Aquatic Animal Diseases.
